On Monday, 18th November 2013, Ben Holman, Walter H. Squires & Son's Assistant Funeral Director, was invited to attend the Plymouth premises of David Parslow's School In Funeral Service, to be presented with his British Institute of Funeral Directors' Certificate in Funeral Service.
The presentation was made by the B.I.F.D. National President, Mrs Sally Walton, and in attendance were Ben's tutor, Mr David Parslow, as well as Walter H. Squires & Son's Company Director, Ryan Squires, and Mark Dare, one of Walter H. Squires & Son's Funeral Service Operatives and newest recruit.
When asked why he chose to take his staff through the B.I.F.D. Diploma route, Ryan, who was also accepted as a member of the B.I.F.D. on 6th April 2013, said "Ben had been very keen to take a professional qualification and when considering the route to take I wanted a tutor with good credentials, and I already knew David Parslow had a fantastic reputation as he had guided me through my exams in September 2012. I also knew he was already on the B.I.F.D. route of training so the decision to entrust Ben's education to him was an easy one. When considering the various options I liked the fact that the B.I.F.D. Diploma was very hands on with classroom teaching. I also liked the fact that the B.I.F.D. tested their students on theory and pratical arranging but also went that step further and assessed their students' conducting ability and their interaction with the family they are serving in a real time situation".
When interviewed for The Journal, the monthly publication produced by the B.I.F.D., Ben said he had thoroughly enjoyed the Certificate Course and was looking forward to completing the rest of his studies and gaining his Diploma.
The management and staff at Walter H. Squires & Son wish Ben the very best of luck with his remaining studies and look forward to congratulating him with he gains his Diploma in 2014.
