Christmas might be four weeks away but festively-minded business and Cullompton councillors are getting into the swing of things already. Dignitaries and employees from Walter H. Squires & Son spent yesterday afternoon getting the town’s 30ft tree in place before this weekend’s light parade.
Town clerk Judy Morris said: “We have been very lucky as Walter H. Squires & Son sent some strong men along to help us.” Walter H. Squires & Son donated money so the tree could be bought from Dowrich Farms, Crediton.
Many traders will also have their own decorated trees at the front of their shops but Mrs Morris said Lloyds TSB and Natwest were not able to take part this year. She added: “We do get a lot of support but we were disappointed we didn’t have it from everyone.”
The council gives traders half towards the cost of a tree to encourage as many as possible to contribute towards making Fore Street as attractive as possible.
The light parade starts from Meadow Lane at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday 30th November.
