As of 1st July 2007, in compliance with new Government regulations, all of Walter H. Squires & Son's premises have been declared no smoking areas and signs declaring it illegal to smoke in them have been installed. Also, Walter H. Squires & Son's immaculate fleet of vehicles have also been declare no smoking areas and they too display no smoking signs.
Walter H. Squires & Son is committed to ensuring that our employees are able to work in clean air, free from second hand smoke. The harmful effects of second hand smoke are well known. Second hand smoke exposure can lead to:-
Heart disease
Lung cancer and emphysema
Asthma
Stinging eyes
Clothes smelling of cigarette smoke
Health and Safety law already states that employers must protect the health of their employees where reasonably practicable. Since the fourth report of the Scientific Committee on Tobacco and Health (SCOTH) in March 1998, there has been evidence that second hand smoke is a danger to health. If an employee develops a condition from breathing second hand smoke, compensation could be claimed.
