From Tradition & Integrity Comes Peace of Mind

Not even the short shower of rain at midday could dampen the high spirits at Culm Vale Bowling Club’s Heard Open Triples Tournament, held on Saturday 4th July and sponsored for second year by Walter H. Squires & Son, Cullompton’s only third generation independent funeral directors, in association with Golden Charter, the UK’s leading independent funeral plan provider.

An impressive attendance was made up by Culm Vale Bowling Club members as well as members of other clubs from Bridgwater, Exeter, Bristol and Newton Abbot.

First place was won by P. Chidgey, B. Holley and C. Middleton of Tiverton West End Bowling Club and a closely matched battle for second and third place was won by M. Mills, R. Andrews and F. Thomas of Topsham Bowling Club and A. Heard, A. Dent and C. Butt of Culm Vale Bowling Club, respectively.

Ryan Squires, Walter H. Squires & Son’s company director, presented all three teams with prize money and Golden Charter bowls merchandise, the 1st place winners were also presented with replicas of the tournament trophy.

Commentating on the day, Club captain and tournament organiser Ray Mayne said, “What a wonderful day, the weather was kind to us and Culm Vale entered one triple by Andrew Heard to keep the name going. As a club we are very lucky to be sponsored so well by Ryan Squires, he is not just the sponsor he mixes in and becomes a part of the club. I’d like to offer my personal thanks to Ryan and I hope our relationship will continue for many years.”

Walter H. Squires & Son’s company director, Ryan Squires, added “We initially contacted Mr Mayne in 2007, after the completion of our Cullompton funeral premises, to see if we could offer support to the club and start to build relationships with the local community and we were delighted to be told that the Heard Open Triples Tournament needed a sponsor. After receiving such a warm welcome from the club members and visiting players we had no hesitation in providing sponsorship again this year and we look forward to supporting the club, and Cullompton, for many years to come.”
